How much intelligence does it take to figure out that both political parties have been more friendly to banks and moneyed interests than to those hurt by the practices of those interests in this recession? The real question is, are Americans willing to do something about it?

One can only guess how many broken and unsupported homes this means are dumped on our welfare system, not to mention the pain to innocents. You would think the two parties could get together and find a way to put the skids on this. They seem to be too busy trying to find a way to put each other down than solving what clearly they ought to agree needs to be fixed.

Proposed 28th Amendment

From a recent email chain letter-

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn't pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that has just been passed...in all of its forms.

The proposed equal rights amendment looked good at first. Later, when we realized some pitfalls many changed their minds. It might be well to ask your congressman what he would have against this bill and find in what form it would work the way we really want (if the current form is not best).

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ."

Sibel Edmonds

"Sibel Edmonds, a 32-year-old Turkish-American, was hired as a translator by the FBI shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 because of her knowledge of Middle Eastern languages. She was fired less than a year later in March 2002 for reporting shoddy work and security breaches to her supervisors that could have prevented those attacks."ACLU

Also from this article are multiple times the FBI retroactively classified materials, some of which had previously been cleared. For example.

JUNE 2002: Senators Grassley and Leahy write the Justice Department Inspector General a letter asking specific questions about Edmonds' allegations and write that the FBI has confirmed many of her allegations in unclassified briefings. This letter is later retroactively classified in May 2004.

This is far from a joke and congress has yet to intervene. If you know any good reason please share with us.

Coleen M. Rowley Special Agent (FBI)

The full context of Coleen Rowley's letter to Robert Muller may be read at the following link. Suffice it to say her passing the full letter to Time (click on link) suggests that she considered it an extraordinary issue. Seeking "whistleblower" status indicates that she was concerned about retaliation.

I have been an FBI agent for over 21 years and, for what it's worth, have never received any form of disciplinary action throughout my career. From the 5th grade, when I first wrote the FBI and received the "100 Facts about the FBI" pamphlet, this job has been my dream. I feel that my career in the FBI has been somewhat exemplary, having entered on duty at a time when there was only a small percentage of female Special Agents. I have also been lucky to have had four children during my time in the FBI and am the sole breadwinner of a family of six. Due to the frankness with which I have expressed myself and my deep feelings on these issues, (which is only because I feel I have a somewhat unique, inside perspective of the Moussaoui matter, the gravity of the events of September 11th and the current seriousness of the FBI's and United States' ongoing efforts in the "war against terrorism"), I hope my continued employment with the FBI is not somehow placed in jeopardy. I have never written to an FBI Director in my life before on any topic. Although I would hope it is not necessary, I would therefore wish to take advantage of the federal "Whistleblower Protection" provisions by so characterizing my remarks.

Coleen Rowley's Memo to FBI Director Robert Mueller

That Congress nor anyone else has never disciplined any of those who bungled 9/11, including this case, is very troubling. At best it appears some folks in the FBI were criminally negligent, at worst aiding the hijackers. If it were not for the internet, it seems certain this story would have been buried forever. Kevin Ryan

Kevin Ryan is the former Site Manager for Environmental Health Laboratories, a division of Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Mr. Ryan, a Chemist and laboratory manager, was fired by UL in 2004 for publicly questioning the report being drafted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on their World Trade Center investigation. In the intervening period, Ryan has completed additional research while his original questions, which have become increasingly important over time, remain unanswered by UL or NIST. From: ULtruth

While whistle blowers have commonly been threatened, fired, harassed or died unexpectedly it appears that not a single person was even reprimanded for the many colossal mistakes on 9/11. In fact many of those in key positions were promoted. Lee Hamilton of the 911 Commission said their job was not to fix blame and both parties sat on their hands and let it go. WHY?
